<p>Some time ago (<a href="http://www.therecruiterslounge.com/2007/06/21/will-you-help-me-write-the-history-of-sourcing/">June 2007</a> to be exact) I wrote the first version of this piece. My original intent was to research  the sourcing industry and track developments over the past 10 years or so which was my guess of how long the  practice of Sourcing candidates has been online.  (Wow! I was more surprised than anyone else how long Sourcing has been around.) I have since updated my effort and wanted to share my  findings with you. <p><strong>Why wasn&#8217;t I (or my company) featured in your work?</strong></p>
<p>Before you begin to consume the data, let me apologize to everyone I did not note in this work. If you think that  I have overlooked a noteworthy accomplishment by you or someone you know, let me save us both an argument  and say, “Yes, I probably did.”</p>

<p><strong>How did you get this information?</strong></p>
<p>In case you are wondering how I gathered this data, I used 2 methods: <strong>a</strong>) I picked up the phone and asked  somebody and <strong>b</strong>.) I researched the internet. When I spoke with someone directly, I cite their Linkedin profile  (or homepage) in my list of sources. When I found the information online, I cite the URL. Several of the URLs are  based on The Internet Archive. The Internet Archive is a 501 ( c ) (3) non-profit that is building a digital library  of internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. As it is an unbiased 3rd party, I cited their links  quite a bit.<br />

<p><strong>Can I share it?</strong></p>
<p>You have my permission to post this data on your blog, website or company intranet. &#8220;I have been involved in online research and online lead generation for over a decade,&#8221; Jim Stroud says. &#8220;I never get tired of seeking out the next big thing and applying it to lead gen.&#8221;</p>
<p>Jim Stroud has been using his online research and lead generation skills for such companies as Microsoft, Google, MCI, Siemens and several internet startup companies.</p>
<p>&#8220;It was my day-to-day to find people who fit a certain profile, build a contact list based on that criteria and then reach out to them about an opportunity. Although I was doing it for  recruiting purposes, it&#8217;s not much different than finding sales leads.&#8221;</p>
<p>It was the state of the economy that inspired Jim Stroud to launch this new initiative.</p>
<p>&#8220;When times are great, people still want sales&#8217;  leads. How much more do they want them now?&#8221; Stroud says, &#8220;Ironically,  recruiters still need ways to find people for opportunities. Despite the proliferation of resumes being tossed around on job boards, some  recruiters are still having a tough time filling positions because many candidates are very risk adverse these days and prefer to stay where they are rather than join a new company.&#8221;</p>
