“Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said Tuesday that the recession is “very likely over,” offering his most explicit endorsement so far of the view, increasingly widespread among economists, that a recovery is underway.” The Washington Post – September 16, 2009

Whether you believe Chairman Bernanke or not, one thing is certain, the economy will eventually return. The question is, “Will you be ready for the upswing?” What are you doing now to capture the mindset of the passive candidates who are quietly waiting for the market to turn in their favor? Are you using YouTube and sites like it to maintain your edge? If not, this webinar is an event you can not miss.

The Searchologist – Jim Stroud is presenting “How to recruit with YouTube.” This presentation was a huge hit with the Technology Association of GA (TAG) earlier this year and by popular request, he is doing it again in a webinar format.

“Given the very good historical performance of this indicator in predicting U.S. economy activity, the [ISM] report provided further evidence that the U.S. economic recession may have now come to an end.” Millan Mulraine, Economics Strategist at TD Securities

“Jim Stroud put on a FIRST CLASS presentation last night at the TAG Recruiting Society’s May meeting. His talk was on “How to Recruit with YouTube” and it was ONE OF THE BEST PRESENTATIONS we have ever had at the Recruiting Society. The presentation was filled with great information and cutting-edge ideas that recruiter can really use! I personally received several praises from the meeting attendees about Jim’s presentation. If you did not get a chance to catch the presentation. I highly recommend that you view the video.”

Gary Shaar

…

Nice work Jim!

Michael Del Carro

…

Jim had everyone on the edge of their seat. This is great stuff and he delivered it with both an informative and entertainment like style. Jim needs to be picked up by Fox for a Reality Series. It does not matter what it is, just give him his iPhone and maybe a Flip camera and he will teach you something and keep you tuning in every week. Check your
local listings and check him out!

Mark St. Amour

…

Jim continues to bend the curve a little further in the recruiting space. Jim gave a great presentation and taste of the potential use of You Tube geared towards recruiting marketing and sourcing. I appreciate Jim giving up valuable time to speak to our local Atlanta recruiting peers. I definitely recommend you take a look at this training and use some of the tatics that Jim suggests!

Ronnie Bratcher

…

Terrific presentation! Jim is a great speaker with a genuine, warm and engaging style that comes through not only while he is presenting but also one-on-one. There were so many cutting edge and innovative ideas and resources that he shared with us on How to Recruit on You Tube that it was hard to keep up with them all! If you want to stay on top of the latest technology, information and resources in the recruiting space, I highly recommend adding Jim’s site to your RSS feed and reviewing the informative videos and other great materials he has to share. And, if you have the opportunity to see and meet this talented, entertaining speaker, by all means do it! You WILL learn from him!

Sheri Dresser

…

Jim put on a great presentation and Thompson Technologies was truly honored to be able to sponsor such a great event. I think everyone certainly walked away with some great takeaways and I know TTINC is already looking at some ways to incorporate some of the things Jim showed us to benefit our organization.

Thanks again Jim!

Liz Cressaty

…

Jim put on a top-notch presentation Tuesday night!! He provided relevant and useful information in a clear, concise and easy to understand presentation! He is authentic, funny, warm, engaging, intellectual and part-geek! Seriously, I was honored to be in the room Tuesday night! If you have an opportunity to engage Jim and you’re wondering if it will be worth your time, wonder no more! Thanks Jim!!

Teela Jackson

…

Jim Stroud DELIVERS. Fantastic work as usual.

I was speaking to a (self-described) fan of my work and my head grew (at least 3 sizes bigger than it already was). During the course of the conversation I mentioned to him the work I do with my blogs, in addition to the value added services I deliver personally and through affiliate services. To say the least, he seemed flabbergasted and speculated that most of the people who read my blog probably did not know half of what I just related to him. (He said this as a long-time subscriber.)

Well, after speaking with him, I began to wonder how true his statement was. So, I decided to make the products and services I offer more prevalent to regular and new readers. If you click the Contact link on this blog, you can contact me about advertising on The Recruiters Lounge, submitting content and stuff like that. If you click Tools and Services, then you will get a laundry list of the type of tools and services I provide (Candidate Sourcing, Recruiter Training, Project Recruitment Services, et cetera.)

Without a doubt, my clients really dig my Custom Training Videos. What is that? (Glad you asked) With this service I take a gander at your recruiting project, source a few leads and then create demo videos showing you how I found them. The cool thing about this is that you can build your own library of Sourcing Videos suited to your specific needs that you can pass down to new Sourcers / Recruiters who join your company later.

Finally, I also produce The Searchologist! The Searchologist is actually a couple of things.

1. The Searchologist is a membership site where I share how-to videos and tutorials on Resume Sourcing and Lead Generation Strategies for Recruiters. It costs $49.95 a month to subscribe and access the premium content. Click here to view the archives to see a list of what you have missed so far. New content is added to The Searchologist membership site each week.

2. The Searchologist is a video series of lead generation tips for Recruiters seeking passive candidates. If you have an iPod or an iPhone, click here to subscribe.

You can also click here to join The Searchologist fan page on Facebook to receive notification of when new videos are released. When the series launched it was weekly, now it is produced twice monthly as there is only so much a guy can do. (Smile)

I also promote tools that I think really deliver on the goods. For example…

I am a big fan of eGrabber products and have endorsed their products long before they became a sponsor of this site. (Just fyi… I really like their wares.) Click here (or on the “Resume Sourcing” link at the top of this blog) to get a free sample of what their product can do.

I also dig the DVDs produced by the Social Media HeadHunter. Good stuff!

Finally, I tweet a lot and can’t seem to get enough of it. Curious? Click here to follow me (@jimstroud) on Twitter. (tweet-tweet)

Okay, that’s all there is to say about that. If you want know anything else, contact me and we’ll connect to discuss further. Until then…

E’ ya’ later!

ATLANTA, GA – Industry insider Jim Stroud debuts the lead generation blog – ” The Searchologist.” The Searchologist is a blog that gives tips, tricks and strategies about Online Lead Generation and Resume Sourcing. It is ideally suited for recruiters and sourcers seeking passive candidates and sales professionals prospecting new business. The Searchologist is updated each week and features tutorials, how-to videos, forum discussions and weekly video broadcasts over the internet. It is chiefly written and produced by Jim Stroud, but will soon feature content from other leaders in the field.

.
“I have been involved in online research and online lead generation for over a decade,” Jim Stroud says. “I never get tired of seeking out the next big thing and applying it to lead gen.”

Jim Stroud has been using his online research and lead generation skills for such companies as Microsoft, Google, MCI, Siemens and several internet startup companies.

“It was my day-to-day to find people who fit a certain profile, build a contact list based on that criteria and then reach out to them about an opportunity. Although I was doing it for recruiting purposes, it’s not much different than finding sales leads.”

It was the state of the economy that inspired Jim Stroud to launch this new initiative.

“When times are great, people still want sales’ leads. How much more do they want them now?” Stroud says, “Ironically, recruiters still need ways to find people for opportunities. Despite the proliferation of resumes being tossed around on job boards, some recruiters are still having a tough time filling positions because many candidates are very risk adverse these days and prefer to stay where they are rather than join a new company.”

Here is a snapshot of some of the content that is exclusive to The Searchologist blog:

“Nowadays, a lot of recruiters and sales professionals have to pay for their own training without company reimbursement and I wanted to be sensitive to that when I launched this site,” Stroud says. “This is why The Searchologist is priced so competitively when compared to other training programs and/or webinars that teach online lead generation techniques to recruiters.”

Webinars on Online Lead Generation for Recruiters average $100.00 and some hands-on training programs range from several hundred dollars to just over a thousand dollars for an all day workshop. In contrast, Jim Stroud offers basic and cutting-edge strategies of online lead generation strategies on a monthly subscription basis. For a monthly fee of $49.95, subscribers will have access to all of the content hosted on The Searchologist blog. (The subscriber fee of $49.95 is an introductory price.) It is also notable to mention that Jim Stroud has a generous affiliate program connected to The Searchologist as well. It is powered by ClickBank and pays affiliates monthly commissions.

When asked why he has decided to tie-in an affiliate program with his new site, Jim made the comment, “Recurring income is a beautiful thing. I don’t mind sharing the wealth.”

I was invited to speak at the Technology Association of GA (and what a blast it was)! I met a lot of new people, shook hands with old friends and (somehow) managed to keep everyone awake discussing how I used YouTube as a Recruiting tool back in the days of when I was a Technical Sourcing Consultant for Microsoft.

I talked for about 80 minutes (more or less) about, umm… the following topics:

7 Reasons Why You Should be Recruiting with YouTube

Keyword Research Tools

Using Videos for Search Engine Optimization

YouTube Channel Optimization

Strategic Competitive Practices

And more…

All this, PLUS some jokes that you had to be there to really understand. (smile)

Although this presentation was designed for Recruiters, there was plenty of information relevant to Online Marketers and Entrepreneurs, so I was glad that I could share somethings that would be of interest to them as well. If this topic is of interest to you, don’t feel bad about missing out. A recording of the presentation is available for your review below. Sorry, its not a freebie, but (judging by the reaction of the crowd) totally worth it, but I suppose that is subjective.

Here is a sneak peek of the presentation:

I like to think of myself as a nice guy, but of course, I can not please all the people all of the time. Case in point, someone committed identity fraud on my blog earlier today. Here is a picture of the infraction:

Umm… I have made the expletive invisible since I like to keep my content at a certain level of decorum. Be that as it may, I was curious to know who it was that was drinking the Hatorade this morning.

“Hatorade” is slang vernacular. It is typically used to describe someone who is jealous of your success. For example, if my blog and commercial activities earn me a level of respect among my peers (and a nice income) and you are not getting the kudos (or profits) you feel that you deserve, then you may feel that it is unfair that I am successful. As such, you are “drinking the hatorade.”

All that being said, allow me to make 2 points.

I’m rubber, you’re glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you. (What can I say? I like the classics.)

Just in case there are other bloggers out there who have faced similar issues, I want to share with you a quick tutorial on how to track people who leave malicious comments on your blogs.

I use a Wordpress blog, but I imagine most blogs have this function. (I love Wordpress!) In the admin section of my blog is a place for moderating comments. Beside each comment is the IP Address of each person who has left a comment on my blog. Simply copy the IP address of the person who left the infantile remark (See the arrow?).

Go to the website http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/ and input the IP Address. You will get very useful information as shown on the screenshot, the least of which is a map showing the location of the person who pretended to be me (Is that a crime?) and leave a malicious comment on my blog. Hmmm… according to the map, they are in Atlanta. (Wow. What are the odds?)

If I were to click the “Click for big IP address location image” link, then I would get a big Google map of where this person is (at least where they were when they wrote the comment) and driving directions (so I don’t get lost if I chose to confront them on this issue).

I glance a bit further down on the left side of the page and I see something even more useful. The name of the company using the IP address in conjunction with their email address. Bingo! Hmm… It looks like a company connected with Recruiting called “XXXXX.” (still being a nice guy)

I look up their website and get their phone number (not hard at this point) and… there you have it.

At this point I can email (or call) and say… “Hey! Why do you think I’m a worthless (expletive)?” Or, I could say, “Do you know someone was at your office today, assumed my identity and left a nasty remark on my blog?” Or, I could simply leave it alone; which I will. Afterall, I think the point was made. Why bring up charges of identity theft on such a small thing? (Smile)

By the way, if anyone reading this blogpost should ever need any “worthless” advice on how to source candidates, perform online research or want to learn how to do any number of things online (marketing, et cetera), feel free to reach out to me. I teach people how to use the internet to make their lives more productive, profitable and fun. Click here for more info.

Ok, so I know what you are thinking: Mobile (SMS) is just for the youth market, right? Well, while that may have been the case a few years ago, we are now witnessing a growing trend that reveals otherwise. Today, of the 262 million total U.S. wireless subscribers, more than 138 million users now send and receive text messages. 72% of those between 25-49 use text messaging, and 53% of texters are 35 years-old and up.

While it is easy to get excited about the trends in mobile, it’s important to understand the basics before embarking on any mobile recruitment strategy. What follows is a quick primer that I have put together to hopefully addresses some of the fundamental questions.

Mobile Marketing: Basic Q&A

Q: What is SMS?

A: SMS is an acronym for short message service. SMS is often referred to as text messaging.

Q: What is MMS?

A: MMS is an acronym for multimedia messaging service. MMS messages are typically mobile messages that contain some combination of text, images, audio, or video.

Q: What is the standard length of an SMS (text message)?

A: SMS/text messages are usually limited to 160 characters, with spaces.

Q: What are the two questions that need to be asked prior to executing a mobile recruiting strategy?

A #1. What are the key goals and how can mobile help to achieve the objectives?
A #2. Who is my target audience and what is most important to that audience?

* Identifying the objectives and target audience are both critical to understand in order to craft the most effective marketing program to achieve the desired outcome.

Q: What is a Common Short Code (CSC)?

A: Common Short Codes are short numeric codes to which SMS or MMS can be sent from a mobile phone. Short codes are commonly 5-6 digits, and can be “vanity” codes (which no other company can use) or shared codes (used by many companies). The short codes facilitate an interactive mobile experience between the consumer and host company. See mobile marketing examples by Sprite and Coca-Cola. For more details, visit the Common Short Code Administration (CSCA).

Q: What are the five most common modes of communication available on a mobile device?

The five modes include:

Voice

SMS (A.K.A. – text messaging)

Web (WAP=Wireless Application Protocol, or Mobile Web)

Applications (think of any device (i.e., iPhone) that can leverage mobile apps)

Email (Not always available to all mobile users.)

* Of the five modes of mobile, SMS/text-messaging is the most widely used application on the planet.

Q: How popular is text messaging?

A: Consumers today are using text messaging more than ever. Worldwide, there are 4 billion mobile subscribers with 3 billion currently using text-messaging. In the U.S., there are over 262 million wireless subscribers and 138 million using text messaging. In Q2 of 2008, a Nielsen Mobile study revealed that in the U.S. there are now more text messages being sent and received vs. phone calls. See more stats here.

Q: What is a keyword and how is it used?

A: Keywords allow your consumers to interact with your mobile programs. For example: “Text HEWITT to 88000“ allows potential candidates to “opt-in” and receive job alerts from Hewitt Associates. To start, users are prompted to send a text message with the keyword ‘HEWITT’ to the short code 88000. In this example, the keyword ‘HEWITT’ is tied to an auto-response that confirms the opt-in subscription, as well as a “call to action” message.

Q: Why would any company want to engage in recruiting through mobile marketing?

A: Let’s face it: Technology is changing the way we all communicate at all levels. Our target audience has become increasingly “mobile” and no longer simply sitting at a desk waiting for our call or email. The mobile device is personal and next to the wallet, purse, or keys, it is the one thing we each carry with us. As working professionals, we are often on-the-go, traveling, in meetings, attending conferences, training, out to lunch, vacation, and so on. With over 262 million U.S. wireless subscribers, we need to consider ways in which we can increase the odds of connecting with our target audience. As some would say, ‘fish where the fish are’… Click here to read: ‘Mobile Recruiting: Why Run SMS Campaigns?

Q: What is WAP?

A: WAP is an acronym for wireless application protocol and is commonly referred to as the mobile web. WAP sites are mobile versions of a websites, typically optimized for mobile devices.

Many mobile-optimized sites today are using the ‘.Mobi’ extension. You can get more information on .mobi “best practice” development tips by visiting MobiThinking.com. A mobile-optimized site should not be a web-version of your site on a mobile device, but a MOBILE-optimized version made for mobile. It should also automatically detect whenever someone is visiting a site through a mobile browser.

.Mobi site example: CloudRecruiting.mobi (*Note: From any mobile browser, type either ‘CloudRecruiting.net’ or ‘CloudRecruiting.mobi’ to view site.)

Are you a job seeker trying to connect with Recruiters? Are you a Recruiter looking for Recruiter talent? (Even in these days…) Well, I am giving something away that I hope will join Recruiters and JobSeekers together, its called the Twittering Recruiters Directory. In a nutshell, I have gathered a list of 300+ Recruiters on Twitter (think of it like a Yellow Pages Directory).

The Twittering Recruiter Directory is intended for networking purposes only and should not be seen as a personal endorsement of any particular Recruiter.

If you are a Recruiter and your name is not on the list, leave a comment on this post and I will add you to the next version.

Recruiters on this list are there because they have certain keywords in their profile (Recruiter, Recruiting, Staffing, et cetera). If you do not have those keywords in your profile, chances are that I missed you in my search. So go ahead and change it now, then let me know by leaving a comment on this blog post. Thanks!

If you asked me to include you in this version by leaving a comment on this post and you are not in the Directory, chances are that you did not leave your Twitter address or alias. Leave a comment on this post and I will add you to the next one. (sorry)

If you did everything right and I still missed you, please leave a comment on this post and I will add you to the next one. (sorry again)

Here are a few more ways that you can use this list.

As a Recruiter:

* Send this out to people you interview, or have spoken to, but could not immediately place. As a way of promoting the “warm and fuzzies,” let them know that you hope to help them in the future. However for now, I hope that this information proves useful to you. Let’s stay in touch.

* Let it inspire you to create a Twitter blog for the purpose of expanding your reach to passive candidates.

As a Jobseeker:

* Add a link to the Twittering Recruiter Directory in an email and send it out to other job networking groups and/or career ministries that you are a member of.

Well, that’s it! Click here or the screenshot below to download your copy today. If it proves useful to you, pay it forward by giving it to someone else.

Happy Networking!

Readers,

I gave the crew behind “The Recruiters Lounge” a week off so they can have a mental break and recharge their batteries. All is well. Tune in next week for an updated edition of the Twittering Recruiters Directory and a special report that I strongly feel all Recruiters, Sourcers and HR Personnel will have an interest in. If you are new to the “Lounge,” be sure to subscribe because you do NOT want to miss it. (Trust me)

Okay, enough of that. The sandy beaches of an undisclosed location are awaiting The Recruiters Lounge crew. (At least virtually)

Cheers,

Jim
