&#8220;I have been involved in online research and online lead generation for over a decade,&#8221; Jim Stroud says. &#8220;I never get tired of seeking out the next big thing and applying it to lead gen.&#8221;</p>
<p>Jim Stroud has been using his online research and lead generation skills for such companies as Microsoft, Google, MCI, Siemens and several internet startup companies.</p>
<p>&#8220;It was my day-to-day to find people who fit a certain profile, build a contact list based on that criteria and then reach out to them about an opportunity. Although I was doing it for  recruiting purposes, it&#8217;s not much different than finding sales leads.&#8221;</p>
<p>It was the state of the economy that inspired Jim Stroud to launch this new initiative.</p>
<p>&#8220;When times are great, people still want sales&#8217;  leads. How much more do they want them now?&#8221; Stroud says, &#8220;Ironically,  recruiters still need ways to find people for opportunities. <p>Imagine yourself as a Sourcer working on a research project and just as you deliver your results, your client becomes irate with you because they did not receive what they were expecting. Consider the frustration of dealing with a customer who manages to change the parameters of a project every other week, but still expects you to meet the original deadline. Worse yet, what do you do once you have supplied data to your client and they refuse to give you feedback on your work or pay you for your time?  I can sympathize with each of these scenarios because I have lived through them all and much, much more.</p>
<p>As a &#8220;Searchologist,&#8221; I have been involved with Recruitment Research (Sourcing) projects for over a decade. I have worked for large corporations like Microsoft, Google, Siemens and MCI, as well as various smaller firms. Believe me when I tell you that the leading cause of customer dissatisfaction is miscommunication. When different perceptions abound, client relationships are damaged, time is wasted and your reputation is harmed. One sure way to avoid a lot of needless drama is to agree on the scope of a project, then write up a contract detailing the final deliverable. The name for such a contract is called a &#8220;<strong>Service Level Agreement</strong>.&#8221;</p>
<p>A Service Level Agreement will keep you from a <strong>lot</strong> of pain, preserve your professionalism and impress your clients. Some companies use Service Level Agreements when engaging Sourcers, but I would dare say that most do not. As a result, the true value of a Sourcing Department is never fully realized due to conflicting views on what a Sourcer should be doing. Due to the popularity of my blog &#8211; The Recruiters Lounge and my activities with <a title="SourceCon" href="http://thesourcingconference.com">SourceCon</a>, I am approached (a LOT) for suggestions on how Sourcers can best communicate with their clients.
