The campaign by Two Marines Moving to hire 50 Vets in 50 days kicks off on Sept. 23 and culminates on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2012. The Alexandria, VA based company is creating openings despite anemic U.S. job growth

WASHINGTON–The Army and Marine Corps, who have borne the brunt of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, are scheduled to reduce the men and women required in uniform by nearly 100,000 as the wars wind down. Expected DOD budget cuts will further increase this number, contributing to service members’ anxiety about finding jobs after their enlistment ends.

“The transition from the Marine Corps wasn’t without stress. I wanted to use my military experience and find a company that held similar values…where we spoke the same language. I found a good fit at Two Marines Moving”

The unemployment rate among our military personnel returning from current conflicts has trended much higher than the national average. Recent data by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows unemployment among young Veterans is over 13 percent. When active-duty service members see highly trained Veterans struggling to find meaningful work, they justifiably worry about their own future prospects for reentering the civilian workforce. “The transition from the Marine Corps wasn’t without stress. I wanted to use my military experience and find a company that held similar values…where we spoke the same language. I found a good fit at Two Marines Moving,” said a former Marine and current sales consultant Tyler Ridlon.

The Alexandria, VA based company is addressing this issue by creating 50 positions for entry level movers, dispatchers, and sales staff. Founder Nick Baucom states, “This program gives the general public the opportunity to support Veterans beyond a simple bumper sticker. Every customer that hires the company is directly responsible for the employment of those Veterans that day. Our customers know they are going to see mission oriented movers on their job who know the meaning of hard work, integrity, and mission accomplishment.” The entire Washington D.C. Metro area can contribute by booking a job with Two Marines Moving.

Two Marines Moving has also created a local job board in cooperation with Hire Patriots to help consumers hire Veterans. People can use the non-profit’s site when they need a strong back and an extra hand with chores and repairs around their home. Companies can also post jobs and search resumes on this site for free.

“Many U.S. Veterans with families say how they would have been unable to pay their essential bills, if it had not been for the day jobs they pick up from the site. Senior citizens absolutely love having the young men and women over, and appreciate their courtesy and work ethic. And business owners gush with praise about finally finding a dependable employee.” – Mark Baird, Founder, HirePatriots.com

A one-two punch is produced by the combination of Two Marines Moving’s hiring commitment and Hire Patriots’ jobs board. Together, Two Marines Moving, Hire Patriots, and the general public can contribute to a reduction in Veteran unemployment.

Two Marines Moving hires Veterans of all branches to service the residential and commercial moving needs of clients within a 60 mile radius of the Washington D.C. Metro area. The company has experienced 100% year over year growth since its inception in 2008 thanks to a public dedicated to hiring our Vets.

Hire Patriots is a 501(c)(3) that connects the public directly with Vets seeking employment. “Day jobs” and long term career opportunities are offered on the site.

It’s so nice to see a campaign like this. Some of these people gave so much and have come back with so little. I hope that 50 is blown out of the water, something like 250. Whether or not the company can do that is another question.
