May I add one more bullet to this topic? Subscribe to valid and current background checking services. I know of a person who had an old offense on their record from when they were young and foolish that was subsequently expunged. However the background checking company was using very old and never updated data which resulted in a rescinded offer of employment to this now upstanding, honorable and qualified individual. The individual was devastated and remains unemployed. Their only recourse was to sue but didn't want to pursue to take energy from their more than year-long job search. It is sad really.
