Resume Sourcing: How to find passive technical candidates

RESUME SOURCING TIP OF THE DAY
.

Q: Jim, I think I have seen every resume on Monster and every resume on the web for (insert technical skillset here) and my req’ is still open. I need to find some developers that are hidden away that no one else has found yet. Can you help me out?

A: Sure! Look for obscure technical keywords related to the skillset you are looking for in various online forums. Check out who is writing about them and reach out for their resume. For example, say I wanted to find some programmers discussing “while loops” and their emails (so I can contact them) at the same time. Click here to see what I would do.

Not sure what technical terms you are in the market for, but take a peek at the Technical Cheatsheets below. There may be something in this collection that may be able to help you. Simply replace “while loop” and programming in the example I gave earlier with other technical terms. You may also want to experiment with different email extensions. For example, using “*@gmail.com” instead of hotmail. Just a thought…

Of course, after finding these people, contact them via email and begn recruiting. (smile)

What is a “while loop?” (Just in case you wanted to know…)

In most computer programming languages, a while loop is a control flow statement that allows code to be executed repeatedly based on a given boolean condition. The while loop can be thought of as a repeating if statement.
