How Recruiters can make money in Vegas

If you are a recruiter in Vegas (or just want to do business there), I have a website for you! You ready? Its called “The City of Las Vegas Business License Search” and it is a safer bet than any given BlackJack table you find over there. Why do I say that? Hmmm… Let’s think it through, shall we?

Things are tough out here for 3rd Party Recruiters looking to land a client. Chances are, if you are not already connected with a Corporate Sugar Daddy with a big Vendor list, or several smaller Daddies with diverse needs; then your knees might be shaking a bit with concern. Might I suggest a different strategy? Why not go after businesses that are just starting off? In this way, you can establish a relationship that could pay off in dividends later; especially when the economy becomes less sucky. Anyways, I digress back to Vegas…

This is the homepage of the Las Vegas Business Search (in all of its low tech splendor).

Notice my search criteria? I have chosen “new licenses issued the last 7 days” under #1, but leave the number of licenses to 50 per page under #2.

I do a search and get back the following list of new businesses in Vegas complete with the name and contact information of the Entrepreneurs who filed for the new business licenses.

And in case the little bell did not ring in your head, this is a Cold Calling Lead List. Basically I would dial them up and say, “Congratulations on your new business! I bet you need some workers to go along with your new Enterprise. Maybe I can help you out with that?”

Now I can imagine some of you looking through that list and thinking, I like the idea of that Jim, but it looks like the pickings are kind of slim for me. I mean, I am not trying to place Accountants or Retail or… (fill in the blank). You have something more along the lines of a small company with deep pockets? Or a medium size company with deeper pockets of cash to give my Searchfirm?

“Umm…,” I reply. “Kind of.”

Here is a list of newsletters that report on VC funding of startups. Within these newsletters of reports of Company X receiving so much money from VC SugarDaddy; get it? Yes, that’s right, I am suggesting that you read the newsletters, see who was recently funded and play “Let’s make a recruiting deal!”

Hey, it could happen…
