Hat tip to Otis Collier for giving me the heads up on something I will be keeping an eye on for awhile – Lively.

Lively has a lot of things going for it that remind me of Second Life. (I mean, you can not escape the comparisons.)

For example, in Lively you can create your own Avatar and Virtual Space

You can also choose your Clothes, Furniture and other accessories.

But beyond those obvious similarities, there are some important differences that I can really appreciate. Here are a few things I noticed.

  • Both Second Life and Lively require you to download something to your computer. (Windows only for Lively) Once you have done that however, with Lively, you can surf the virtual world from your browser.
  • With Lively you can embed your virtual space into your blog (I’ll probably be doing that soon.) They also have a widget for Facebook too. A MySpace widget is in the works too, but not yet ready for primetime.
  • Lively is simpler and much easier to use that Second Life (which I contend is still too complicated for the masses)

Google has (of course) posted a video on YouTube showcasing Lively in action. Here is a peek at one of them.

And here is a video of Google’s Lively in action.

I am not the expert on Second Life Recruiting, but I am wondering if the same rules apply in Lively. I also wonder if the audience will compete and/or dwarf Second Life due to its simplicity and being backed by Google. Hmmm… Only time will tell.
