COOL TOOL: Social Network Grabber (Nice!)

Written on May 6, 2008 – 6:53 am | by Jim Stroud |

If you are a fan of Linkedin (and what Recruiter/Sourcer is not?), you have to check out this new tool from eGrabber. Its called Social Network Grabber for Excel (and you will love it).  This is what the Social Network Grabber for Excel looks like.

Social Network Grabber

And this is what it does. It takes search results like this (see below).

Social Network Grabber

And turns them into this…

Social Network Grabber

What I like about this (and I assume you would to) is how easy it is to use. All you do is search LinkedIn like you normally would then click the “Grab” button (shown below).

The rest is automatic! Social Network Grabber For Excel places the results in, well… yep (you guessed it) all the results go into an Excel sheet. (Click here to download a sample of Social Network Grabber results.) If you like what you see (and I think you will) download a copy, try it out and get one on your own.

Not only was I impressed by the product, but I also agreed to promote their product to my readers. So here is the deal, should you decide to purchase a copy of this awesome product, use the coupon code below to get $50.00 off your purchase. Feelin’ hesitant? No worries, you can download a trial copy to see it in action for yourself.

Warning about this or any product of this type: Indeed, you could use Broadlook Eclipse to do the same thing (though it’s products are typically more expensive than eGrabber’s), but either would be a violation of LinkedIn’s terms of service. In fact, most subscription-based networks (free or paid) have some kind of policy against downloading data via automated spidering tools. Monster.com is another site that specifies that restriction for its resume database, and I know eGrabber has created a parsing module for Monster within its Resume Grabber product. I picked LinkedIn and Monster as examples because those sites have more robust and vigilant ways to detect the use of such tools by its subsribers. So while you might get away with it on other sites, those of you who choose to such spidering tools on sites like these may be in serious danger of losing your accounts.

The tool is meant only to simplify manual copy and paste of information that you will be doing in your normal course of work. It is strongly recommended to use eGrabber’s tool within the guidelines specified by the respective websites.
