I accepted a role as a Social Media Development Manager

Hi guys!

It is with mixed emotions that I leave the house of Microsoft, but I feel compelled to follow my heart. Sometimes you can stay in a role too long and burn yourself out; should you ever find yourself in that position, my advice is to follow your passion. As you may have guessed from the content on this site, I have a passion for new media and how it can be applied in various ways (least of all, recruiting).

Well… (drumroll please) I recently accepted a position as a Social Media Development Manager. I will be working for an established company based in Silicon Valley, CA that has made a ton of money in the B2B space. I will be assisting them in promoting their B2C offering. I will continue to work from my home office. (Does that rock, or what?!!) I can’t go into detail now because the company has not yet announced their new startup division, but I will as soon as I am able. (Hope I can count on your support when the time comes?)

So what does this mean for this blog?
Not entirely sure; at the moment I am considering several options. I mean, my career is shifting, so the stuff that I want to blog about will no doubt change as well. Will I continue this as an Recruiting/Employment blog? Will it morph into more of a Social Media twist on recruiting? Will I sell out? Will I merge my content with a certain site? All very interesting questions, that I have no answers for at this writing. I will however, keep you in the loop as things develop. For now, expect more of the same. (Smile)

Cheers,

Jim Stroud

Jim, congrats. I look forward to seeing where this is headed.

Nice! I’m green with envy! If anyone in the recruiting space deserves it, its you! Congrats.

Jim began at Microsoft about 3 years ago as a recruiting researcher, thanks in part to his reputation as a “Searchologist”. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him on a number of Microsoft projects. Those of you on the outside who have read his blog can see his curiosity and creativity when it comes to deep research and web 2.0 tools. I am sure he will thrive in adapting those skills to his new career direction. Best of luck, former colleague. Your talents will be missed.

Congratulations Jim :) You deserve the best! Good kharma!

Jim - Congratulations on the new role and you might be creating a new niche in the recruiting industry for many to follow for years to come. All of us will be following with interest to see the impact a role like this can have as it more relates to sales and marketing recruiting initiatives vs. the traditional recruiting role.
