I redesigned my blog for 2008. What do you think?

I redesigned my blog for 2008 and would like to get your opinion on it. (And yes, I know I have changed my look a couple of times this year.) So what do you think?

I like it.

With the many things you have in the columns it seems easier to scroll through with a white background.

It did take me a moment to find “The Day In Recruiting.” A frequent stop of mine.

Looks Good

Looks great Jim! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your feedback guys! Its truly a labor of love. -Jim

Looks good, Jim! Nice work!

Looks good, clean, inviting and easily navigatable.

You have a winning combination of easy to read, appealing to the eye, and interesting posts.

Like you, Jim — slick. May 2008 be your best year ever!

Very clean Jim. Squeaky even. Happy New Year!

Best,
Rich

Thanks guys! I truly appreciate the feedback.

Hey Jim,
It’s better than the old design but you can go even further:

1) Too many colors in the blog’s style. For example. Between the Related Links, the comments, etc., there seem to be 3 similar but different blues being used. One would suffice and it would look better.

2) Subscription - the ‘Subscribe to..’ links are all either too small or wedged in - hidden. I would pull them out of the sidebar and stick them on the right side of your header, and make them larger.

3) Email subscription - setup a small form so that people simply need to type in an email address and submit like on http://jobmob.co.il/. I don’t know about FeedBlitz, but FeedBurner provides the html for this.

4) Your Digg button is strange-looking. Take the real thing from my site if you like.

5) I like your Search bar but I would only keep it in such a valuable spot if people use it often. Otherwise shift it down.

6) Pull out the Browsing This image. It’s just pushing information lower and creating a block of whitespace beside it.

7) There are also too many different size fonts on the site, it’s stressful on the eyes. Try to keep all standard text (post content, category names, comments, etc.) in the same font face and size.

I really like the styling of your portrait in the About The Site box. Instead of the drab grays, you could next time consider taking that styling and using it across the blog for a more inviting, cozy feel even while keeping a white background for the professional clarity and easy reading.

Drop me an email if you’re using WordPress and I’ll send you a list of recommended plugins.

Hey Jim-
I really like the lighter background; lots easier to find sections.
Happy 2008 and Happy Recruiting!
