BANGALORE: Human resource management teams of several companies are paying lip service in encouraging women workforce and often resisted decisions relating to their promotion or deployment in certain sectors like finance, according to MphasiS Chairman Jerry Rao.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day NASSCOM IT-Women Leadership Summit 2007, Rao said that HR management teams, including those led by women, were not found to be great supporters of women when it came to promotions.

The issue needs to be addressed not individually but collectively by women workforce themselves, he said.
Women needed to work on developing communications skills, he said.
“Women leaders were not very often found making power point presentations or making their voice felt during a conference unlike their male counterparts,” he said, adding women need to look into these small details when managing and investing in their careers.
According to Bobby Mitra, MD, Texas Instruments India, absence of women during a meeting often led to lack of diversity of opinions and methods in which a Business firms need to look into how much of business value is lost when women are not roped in. The business imperative of employing women must be seriously considered by firms keen on augmenting their business, he said.
