Dean of MIT lied on resume 28 years ago, so she quits today
The head of admissions for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has resigned after admitting that she had fabricated some of her credentials.
Marilee Jones, the admissions dean, had claimed to have a doctorate, though it’s unclear in what field and from what institution. In biographical information she supplied to other organizations, she claimed to be a “scientist with degrees in biology and chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Albany Medical College.” ÂÂ
It’s unclear how the deception came to the attention of MIT. In a statement she released today, she said, “I misrepresented my academic degrees when I first applied to MIT 28 years ago and did not have the courage to correct my resume when I applied for my current job or at any time since… This is the only public comment I wish to make at this personally difficult time and I hope my privacy will be respected.”

what a FANTASTIC job she did in helping put MIT on the map, making it what it is today..
Yeah, it’s so inspiring how a small, little-known technical college like MIT rose to such national prominence during Jones’s tenure in the admissions office!
The Dean, Paraphrased: In my chosen career field I have committed the crime of the century . . . there I’ve said it . . . now I don’t want to talk about it anymore . . . and if you ask me about it . . . you are not respecting my privacy?
Everyone who ever played by the rules, to include all rejected MIT candidates; all accepted MIT candidates; and everyone that was considered for the Dean’s job, but didn’t get it; Paraphrased: . . . Huh?
Constatine and Ray,
okay, you both made good points, but I have a question. Did she do a good job? Did she have proven ability? Was her work appreciated by many at the school? She had proven that a degree was not necessary to be successful in this position
Should the lie be punished of course.
The question is the Catch -22 here, why? why in this day and age should one have to lie about credentials if one has ability.

what is so sad about this is that many will focus on the lie, and the possible lack of education, but not what a FANTASTIC job she did in helping put MIT on the map, making it what it is today..
Proof AGAING that a Degree does Not make a person! Doesn’t make a Star!
