How to use CampusReader.com for college recruiting
So there I was flipping through the internet, minding my own business, when I stumbled across something interesting - CampusReader.com. CampusReader does something pretty nifty by collecting content from over 300 college newspapers nationwide and making them accessible online. As soon as I saw it, I thought, “What a nice recruiting tool!” Let me show you what I mean…
1. I go to the homepage of CampusReader.com

2. I input a keyword phrase like, say… “Software Engineer”

3. I randomly pick an article from the search results page. (Actually the first one)

4. I click the link and it takes me to a teaser page where I can only read the first few lines. Fortunately, there is a big blue button promising to take me to the rest of the story.

5. Presto! I am taken to The UTD Mercury Online newspaper where I can read “Windows Vista doesn’t deserve bad reputation” in its entirety. (Oh goodie!)

6. As I read the article, the first few lines catch my eye. “As a computer science senior, I was very excited to find out I was entitled to a free copy of Windows Vista, Microsoft’s new operating system (OS), through the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science.”

Wow! I now have the name of a Computer Science Senior and the name of his school (via the school paper of course, not hard to figure out) well before the next career fair is scheduled. Hmm… I wonder what would happen if I reached out to him and gave him a call? (Or for that matter, called Mr. Raposa - the student who commented on his article) Food for thought, yes?
Happy Hunting!
