SOURCING TIP! How to source Google Engineers with… Google!

Jim Stroud 2.0 was nominated for an award! Please vote for my blog.

I just read about a new search function Google just released called “Google Patents.” Curiosity got the best of me and I just had to take a look, so I did. Check out what I was able to do in less than 5 minutes…

1. First I hopped over to the home page of Google Patents and clicked on the “Advanced Patent Search” link. (See my arrow pointing to it?)

Jim Stroud is a searchologist.

2. I then do a search for Patents assigned to Google. I do this by adding the term “Google” to the Assignee search box.

Jim Stroud is a searchologist.

3. I skim through the results and click on the first link that jumps out at me - “Voice interface for a search engine.” (Hmm… I wonder what’s that all about?)

Jim Stroud is a searchologist.

4. I glance over the legalese and zoom in on the INVENTORS! (For the record: Alexander Mark Franz, Monika H. Henzinger, Sergey Brin and Brian Christopher Milch)

Jim Stroud is a searchologist.

So, now what?

Well, from this point I would simply call Google and say, may I speak to (insert engineer name here) and the fun begins… Now what you may notice also is that the date of this patent is February 7, 2001 so they may or may not be there. Either way, its a lead.

Happy Hunting!

-Jim
