NSA is using TV for Recruiting

The U.S. National Security Agency is targeting its recruiting efforts at viewers of TV’s most popular dramatic series, “Lost” and “CSI,” according to a wire services report.

The story cites a Baltimore Sun report showing an “overwhelmingly” response to NSA help-wanted ads aired in the Washington-Baltimore market during the two shows this fall, including “thousands of hits” to the agency’s website. Although it finds it “obvious” why the NSA chose the forensic crime-solving “CSI” as a staging area, it speculates about the more curious choice of “Lost,” quoting a CIA officer as noting the show reaches an “audience that’s interested in problem-solving and thinking differently.”

The NSA seeks recent college graduates and high-tech industry employees with skills in computer science, languages, engineering, and math, according to the article. - ST
