What is it like to recruit for Playboy Magazine?
Putting all hedonistic issues aside, I have to ask. Should Playboy (and magzines like it) be allowed to recruit college girls?! I mean… really. What does this do for a school’s reputation? If there was a pictorial spread of “The Women of Havard,” or “The Ladies of Yale” published annually in Playboy, would the support from parents (and alum) decrease considerably? Would their stellar reputation be tarnished? Sure, Playboy comes to town and generates a great deal of publicity for UCF. However, what are the long-term effects? The school has taken no position on this issue, but maybe they should. Just a thought.

Playboy Magazine is in search of models for the May 2007 “Girls of the Conference USA” pictorial. Interviewers, photographers and stylists will be in Orlando on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24 to meet University of Central Florida women in bikinis.
The auditions are in no way affiliated with UCF, and they will not be conducted on campus. However, any UCF female student older than 18 may audition.
Linda Gray, UCF director of news and information, said UCF administrators have to be indifferent to the auditions.
“It’s not up to us to take a position,” Gray said. “Young women reach a point where they have to make their own decisions.”
Some UCF students think the Playboy search is an opportunity to give UCF women attention they don’t usually receive on campus. “I think UCF has an amazing amount of beautiful girls,” said Mike Durjan, a UCF senior.
But, Durjan added, he thinks posing in Playboy could give them the “wrong kind of recognition.”
“There’s more to them than just looks,” Durjan said.
