Sourcers Earn More Salary Than Recruiters

It has long been the assertion that Sourcing function is junior to recruiting. Once you have put your time in as a Sourcer, you later graduate to become a full-fledged recruiter. Well, I saw something very interesting that I wanted to share. Indeed has a new toy out - Salary Search.
Just for giggles, I compared the salaries of Sourcers with Recruiters and discovered…
“Average salaries of sourcer job postings nationwide are 12% higher than average salaries of recruiter job postings nationwide.”
Wow! Sort of puts Sourcing in a whole new light, hm? Of course, this does not take into account the commisions earned by placing individuals, but I still think its food for thought.

Jim,

I think you’ve struck on something that speaks to the demands of the tight labor market and what value an individual brings to the table. As you mentioned commission structures aren’t included so I think this may speak more towards in-house corporate recruiting staff than independent recruiters, but nonetheless and interesting and salient point.

Additionally, down the road I’d expect that as the population shifts over the next decade and becomes more web savvy that the average salary will level out and perhaps the sourcing function will reintegrate with the recruiting/sales function, but that’s really a conversation on organizational structure more than anything.

I think the fact that “this does not take into account the commisions earned by placing individuals” is a HUGE factor… that sort of dismisses the intended point. But, yeah, interesting nonetheless! Thanks for more food for thought!

Salaries are only part of a total compensation package. What is the gross income, average, for each job position?
