CLASS: Headline Recruiting - Part 5 of 5
RECRUITING.COM presents…

Free Blog Class: Headline Recruiting (Or… How to source passive candidates from online news resources!)
(C) 2006: Jim Stroud
[ Part 5 of 5 ]
Yesterday I showed you how to search Yahoo News and save them in RSS. Today, something else…
***
Are you familiar with podcasts? (Ahem, like “The Recruiters Lounge,” for example.) Podcasts are audio broadcasts that you can listen to online and/or download and listen to on your Ipod, MP3 player or Zune device. There are a LOT of podcasts on the web covering every subject imaginable and that is a good thing! Why? In a word - Podzinger. Podzinger is a search engine, no, a VERY COOL search engine for podcasts.

What do I like about Podzinger? I can search for keywords and phrases that were mentioned in over 300,000 podcasts. Podzinger then goes to the very moment in the podcasts were those keywords or phrases are spoken. (No need to listen to the whole show!) For example, let’s say I was looking to recruit an Aerospace Engineer. How would that phrase (most likely) on a podcast? Hmmm… I try the phrase, “is an aerospace engineer with nasa” and choose the “both” option beneath the search box because I want to search videoes as well as podcasts. This is what I get…
The phrase I searched for is highlighted in orange, by clicking the highlighted phrase, I can hear where in the podcast those words were said. (FYI, Jesse Leitner is the Aerospace Engineer cited in the podcast.) Notice the RSS button beneath the search box? (See below) If you remember yesterday’s lesson, you know how to save that search for future reviews.
Another cool thing I like is that I can search podcasts in Spanish. (See the arrow below?) What a great way to potentially source diversity candidates, yes?
For the best results, do not try any boolean searches. I would suggest using phrases (mostly), keeping in mind the phrasiology tips from Lesson 1 and select keywords.
