Windows Live saves me sourcing time

I love researching the internet, but it can be time-consuming. Here is one method I use to save time on my searches. (The screenshots are a bit blurry, simply click on them to get a full view.)

.

1. Go to the Windows Live homepage and input your search query. (Its a freebie if you do not already have an account.)

.

Click the image to increase the size

.

2. Hmmm… good search results.

.

3. I want to save this search and run it again later with additional keywords. So I set up a macro. To do that, I click the blue arrow and choose “Create Macro)

.

Click the image to increase the size

.

4. I give my macro a title (”Resumes“), set the scope to “Webâ€? instead of “News,â€? add a description of what my Macros is about and then I add in my search string. (And then of course, I click “Save.â€?)

.

.

5. And whoomp, there it is! Your Macro is ready and you have the option to edit it further, delete it and share it with the general public.

6. To see this Macro in action, let’s go back to the beginning. Say I want to find the resume of a software engineer with experience in C++ and Java. I simply type in “C++ Java” in my Live Search bar (as show below) and click the search button as I normally would.

.

.

7. I search and Windows Live searches for those keywords within the results of the macro highlighted. (In this case, resume.resumes) So although I have typed the keywords “C++ java and hit the search button, by creating my macro “resume.resumes I am really performing this search:

.

C++ Java “software engineer” intitle:resume.of (contains:pdf OR contains:doc OR contains:txt OR contains:ps OR contains:ppt OR contains:xls OR contains:rtf)

.

How is that for convenience?

.

Click the image to increase the size

.

8. Oh! Be sure to note that in the screenshot in Step #7, the macro “resume.resumesâ€? was in black. In the screenshot below, the “Newsâ€? link is highlighted so now you are searching for “C++ Java” only in news articles. Just fyi…
